This isn't my track car, that honour goes to my 1986 Toyota Corolla sporting a 4.0L Lexus V8 and Turbonetics GTK-650 turbo, but I do like to drive my cars how they're capable of being driven. My Genesis set a new street tire lap record at a local time attack by nearly two full seconds at the final event of the season in September. The car only had the coilovers in it at that point. No rear sway bar, no reflash, and the BFG KDWs that just would not grip in the front end no matter what I did. Unfortunately the last event in October was cancelled, so I didn't get a chance to see what the reflash would amount to in terms of an improved lap time.
I ran an event earlier in the season on some used 285/30R18 Kumho V710 race tires and the tautness of the chassis astounded me. This was when the car was bone stock mechanically.
Overall I've been very impressed with the Genesis in my first six months of ownership. True, the mileage isn't quite as good as I'd hoped, but it's not terrible. It has managed just fine cruising through the city, even lowered 3" all the way around, and handled a 2,500 mile roadtrip to the west coast with ease.
I want to say thanks to Ryan Argue and Sam McCargar for their great photos of me on the track. Usually I'm the one taking the event photos, so it's very exciting to get some fantastic shots of my own car out there. I also want to thank my friend Glenn for putting up with me as we transform my 23-year-old Corolla into a full on GT car, while still thinking about stuff to do to the Genesis. And my girlfriend Val, she comes in a very close second to my cars. hehe.
Thanks,
Matt
