GenRacer Road America PWC effort was a success!

Late June 2017 we set out to the famous and personal favorite road course in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin. Road America is a long, fast and challenging race track that has long straights and high speed corners that were perfect for our Hyundai Genesis Coupes. For the first time this season, we brought out both our BK2 Genesis 2.0T race cars to contend against Porsche and BMW. Nick Barbato, former driver from 2016, piloted the #75 while season veteran Jeff Ricca drove the #78. With Ricca doing well in 2015 at Road America, we knew for sure we had the advantage going into this race weekend.

Practice 1 and Practice 2 showed that our car setups needed a little tuning to get everything out of these cars for Qualifying on Saturday. After some strategy and data analysis, the crew worked on some setup changes that we felt were necessary to get the most out of the car. Sure enough qualifying was a success with Nick Barbato P2 and Ricca P3 going into the first race.  Race one had a very good start as both Genracer drivers put the cars 1 and 2 going into the first turn and held that for many laps. Just before the half way point, Jeff Ricca's car broke a rear upper forward link right at the weld due to some harsh curbing he was using to get the fast line. This caused his race to end early. As for Barbato, we remained in the lead with a large gap to second place but it was the final 5 minutes that the car ran out of fuel and Nick started to fade. Due to the 50 minute race that was scheduled, our cars never competed that long and we were sure that we might not make it to the end and needed to conserve during the race. The Touring car class normally runs only 40 minute races and this weekend was the first time that Touring Car would race along side GTS class which normally runs a 50 minute race.

With Nick and Jeff setting 1 and 2 fast laps in race one, they were both on the front row for sunday's race 2. Knowing we had to conserve even more fuel to make it to through the 50 minute race, we chose to run a less horsepower tune to help with our conservation. Both Genracer drivers did exactly as planned and ran a conservative race to finish strong at the end, but the race ended early under a RED Flag due to a major accident with one of the BMW M235iR that blocked the track and needed to be cleaned up. We ended up with a 3 - 4 position overall. Not the 1 - 2  we were looking for but still a fantastic finish for the Hyundais. N

Next round will be in Austin Texas early September when Pirelli World Challenge heads to Circuit of the Americas. Genracer will again have a two car effort!

We like to thank our sponsors that make it possible to be on track!

DBA Rotors makes the best rotors thus far for the genesis coupes. We have tried every brand during testing and have had nothing but a great success using their brake rotors on our cars.

Enthuspec helps us out with all the brake lines, clutch lines and solid suspension bushings we need to be competitive.

Megan Racing transmission and engine mounts are used to keep our shifting precise and Toe/RUCA arms are used to help us fine tune our alignments

Anze Suspension does all our damper revalves and tuning that allows us to get every bit out of our suspension and tires.
